Things to do in St Tropez

By the name of St Tropez first thing which comes in mind is glamour, expensive clubs, yachts and celebrities besides there are many beautiful places to visit and enjoy the weekend.  It is a beautiful luxurious village which is known now, previously it was an old fishing town.

St Tropez is situated on the sea shore, which makes this destination an ideal place for travelers. St Tropez is a great place to visit for a weekend, if you are looking for a luxurious and tranquil place. You will get many local famous clubs where you can dance the night away and if you like, you also get to dance with celebrities.  

 

1.Walking on the Promenade of the Old Port

 

In the heart of town, the city center is Vieux Port which is the center of attraction and most popular place to visit.  The port of St Tropez is filled with yachts, tiny fishing boats, colorful houses and plenty of chic cafes, so it’s definitely worth visiting it.  It is a great experience to sit in one of the cafes and simply watch people. You can also take a walk on street to soak into the atmosphere of the city and admire paintings made by the artists.

If you like to awake up early in the morning, you can go to the Place Aux Herbes at St Tropez Port.  This the a market place where you can feel like real French while buying flowers, fruits or veggies or you can see how the locals and restaurant owners buy fresh fish at Halle Aux Poissons.

 

2. Relaxing on the beach

 

Of course, this is one of the most famous activity. The water at the beaches has wonderful turquoise color. Here is the list of beaches recommended for you: 

A) Tahiti: it is a sandy beach and one of the most iconic beaches in French Riviera.                                                        

B) The next one is Plage de Moorea under the gray, white and turquoise parasols you can discover the private beach of Moorea, it is surrounded by tropical garden.                                     

C) Plage des Canoubiers: It is situated 4km from downtown St Tropez on the road de Salins. This sand beach stretches out 200 meters                                                                                  

D) Plage de Pampelonne: It is one of the most spectacular beaches of St Tropez and longest beach stretching 5km.     

 

3. Hire a boat or take a local tour

 

No worries if you do not have a boat of your own, you can still hire one for a day and enjoy by your own.   Even though this activity is quite expensive, but it’s worth it you are a huge yacht lover or you can take an hour guided tour- known as St Tropez boat tour around the area and guide will explain you of all tourist sites like, Citadelle, Baie-de-Canebiers, Maritime Museum and some villas of celebrities.  If you are already in France and want to see St Tropez by boat on a day, you can choose from multiple tours starting from Cannes and Nice.

 

4. Go up to Citadel

 

St Tropez Citadel has a very interesting hexagon shape and it guards the entire city from above.  It is one of the best spots for sightseeing in St Tropez.  Its walls were built at the beginning of the 17th century.  When you are already there, you can also visit Musee D'Histoire Maritime Saint Tropez where you can learn stories about the maritime past of the beautiful city.

 

5. Visit Musée de la Gendarmerie et du Cinéma

St Tropez has well known rich cinema history, because many old school movies were filmed here.  The director of the Gendarme series of films Jean Girault also used this place as his film set and police station facade became very popular. Museum host interactive work and objects from movies, so it’s worth visiting. The entrance fee is 4€

 

6. Nice walking of the coast

 

Take a seven mile walk along the coast of Pampelonne. The track starts at La Ponche and is well maintained and clearly signposted. Along the way you will pass the small beaches of  Plage Graniers, Plage des Canebiers, Plage de la Moutte and Plage des Salins. It takes 3 hours to walk the whole length of the trail.

 

7. Grande Braderie Fashion Sale

 

This is one of the most famous sale of the region and not to be missed if you are a lover of shopping. It takes place in October for several days. During the sale the designer boutiques of St Tropez put their huge stock out on the streets at a reduced price.  This is the best chance to buy good stuff at extremely low price. 

 

8. Porsche Car Rally

 

Watch this car rally if you are a fan of sports cars. In mid October this rally is held here.  Thousands of Porsche owners gather from across the Mediterranean in St Tropez to rally around and show off. It is super event for owners and enthusiasts.

 

9. Watch the Sailing Regatta

 

From all over the world the racers, and sailing enthusiasts flock here to take part in the world famous Les Voiles de St Tropez Regatta.  More then 4000 sailors and 300 boats take part in the annual program of competitive racing and lovely social event. It is held in September.

 

10. Dance at the best night club of France

 

Les Caves du Roy is the most prestigious night club in France and no trip to St Tropez would be complete without visiting this place.  The entry fee is high and drinks are costly, but it’s well worth spending for a night of superstar spotting. 

 

11. Musée de l'annonciade

 

This museum dates back to 16th century and stores a collection of post impressionist paintings. There is a fee of 6 € to enter the museum.

 

13. Maison de Papillons

 

This is a butterfly museum created by Dany Lartigue.  It has a collection of 35000 species. The butterflies are presented in their family residence, now the property of the town of St Tropez.  In this typical Tropezian homes, fabulous selection of various species are on show. The entrance fee is 2 €
